BalletMet’s The Nutcracker

Evelyn and I had the fun opportunity to attend Dancing with the Nutcracker, an afternoon for kids to learn about The Nutcracker, listen to a story-time and at the end they get to see parts of the performance and participate in the dancing. It was such a fun event and I highly recommend taking your little ones next year. It is FREE, but they suggest making donations to The Family Center for Safety and Healing.

Evelyn is going to be receiving tickets to BalletMet’s performance of the Nutcracker from her Elf on the Shelf, but before this she really did not have any concept or understanding of the story or the characters. Now every time we see a Nutcracker decoration she excitedly recognizes it and recounts the characters she learned about. This is going to be a huge game changer when it comes to attending the actual show, sitting through it and understanding what’s happening on stage.

Evelyn started Ballet & Tap lessons this year so she loved pretending to be a ballerina in BalletMet’s spacious studios.

Because we get to experience the magic of BalletMet’s The Nutcracker this December, I want you and your family to experience the joy as well and join in on celebrating 40 years of The Nutcracker in Columbus!

Keep reading for instructions on how to enter a GIVEAWAY to win four tickets to the performance.

Create everlasting memories for you and yours with the magical return of The Nutcracker. Sparkling snow, charming characters, and wonderful surprises come to life as Clara and her Nutcracker Prince travel through the luminous Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy. A production co-created by Gerard Charles and Robert Post, this holiday classic also features live music from the Columbus Symphony and is sure to enchant everyone in the beautiful seats of the Ohio Theatre.

Meet the Characters

Clara Stahlbaum

When Clara’s godfather gives her a nutcracker at the Christmas party, she has no idea she will soon embark on a magical adventure. In her dreams (or are they really dreams?) she defeats the Mouse King and his mice to save her Nutcracker Prince. Then the diverse wonders of The Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy are displayed before her with all the magic of a little girl’s imagination.

Fritz Stahlbaum

Clara’s brother has a sense for the mischievous. When he becomes dismayed that he cannot crack nuts with his teeth like the nutcracker, Fritz breaks the nutcracker. But Herr Drosselmeyer quickly fixes the toy. Fritz is still looking for trouble and finds a rat with which to tease Clara.

Herr Drosselmeyer

Clara’s godfather and a long-time friend of the Stahlbaum family, Herr Drosselmeyer is a mysterious toymaker who gives Clara a life-like Spanish doll and her brother Fritz an exciting Spanish doll. Near the end of the party, Drosselmeyer gives Clara another special gift: a nutcracker.

The Nutcracker Prince

Hailing from the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Nutcracker Prince has been entrapped in the nutcracker that Herr Drosselmeyer gives to Clara. When Clara frees him in the battle against the Mouse King, he takes her on an enchanting journey to his homeland.

Sugar Plum Fairy

After hearing the story of Clara rescuing the prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy arranges a grand celebration in their honor filled with astonishing surprises, including a reunion between Clara and her Spanish doll.

The nutcracker is a part of legacy art and culture. Just like Klara dreamt about it we dream about it for a long time.
